“Chinchorro: 3000 years before Tutankhamun” (cultural heritage)

In this documentary daily life in a community that lived around 10 thousand to 3500 years ago is recreated. The mummies from Chinchorro are the oldest mummies in the world. These people had a burial tradition that led to the development of a mummification technique that helped the mummies last for over 3000 years. The oldest mummy, found near Camarones, is around 7000 years old. The documentary was created by Hermann Mondaca.

The documentary was funded by the Audiovisual Fund of the National Council for Culture and the Arts and sponsored by the University of Tarapaca, the Codecite Corporation, and the EcoScience Foundation.

Its launch was held on September 26, 2008 at the Cineteca Cultural Center at the La Moneda Palace and was presented by the Minister of Culture, Ms. Paulina Urrutia. The documentary was shown at the exhibit of the mummies at the Cineteca Cultural Center.
